Dadventure: A Very Green River

Part of the appeal to uproot my family and move out here to Chicago was the chance for new adventures, and boy have we had them.  We’ve seen the Cubs Win, went water sliding during the winter, visited the art museum, and we’ve even seen two war re-enactments.  Believe it or not,  I think we are just warming up.

Last weekend we crossed another item off of our “bucket list”.  We took a trip downtown to watch the dyeing of the Chicago River.  With no idea what to expect our clan along with my mom and my sister made our way by train early (7:00 is early for me on a Saturday)… into the city.  I have no idea how many people come in for this event but we made it to the river about 30 minutes early and it was packed. All sorts of good-natured and somewhat inebriated revelry was going on  all over.  Everyone endured a little cold weather and some light snowfall, then next thing we knew boats were racing up and down the river dumping the dye and mixing it up in the river.  It was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen.  A close second the leprechaun on water-jet shoes that made his way up and down the river during all of this…

Next year don’t be surprised if you find us down there again… a little more festively attired…

Your attire was fine! Looks like a great time. You got to see water jets in action, awesome! We lived in the loop for two St Patty’s when we moved here 3.5 years ago and always enjoyed it.

I would like to live down there… but I sure do love where we are right now, and a little trip on the train is fun for my boys!
