#PowerofDad Learning about Responsibility
As a dad I get to do many wonderful things with my kids. We play games, we travel, we read, and we learn together. I love every minute of it. One of the most important lessons I can help them learn is about responsibility. Every Saturday we do chores together. Some days they get up and go and the next thing you know Saturday chores are over and we are off on some grand adventure. Other Saturdays it becomes Sunday before we are done. One Saturday I was asked why I just don’t come downstairs and help them so that they can do it faster. I told them I could, but then my list wouldn’t get done. We wouldn’t be any closer to our adventures and fun because they would be waiting on me to finish. They didn’t believe me so I said if they liked we could try it their way but that before we could get on with our fun activities I would need to finish my work. They agreed and I helped them get their work done, then when they were finished I started my chores, and it wasn’t to long before I heard “Dad, when are you going to be ready…” I said that it usually takes me about an hour and a half. Much to their dismay they realized that it was going to eat up a good chunk of our fun time. Which it did. Afterward we talked about it and how even though they didn’t think it was a problem they ultimately had to deal with the consequences of their decision. while it was a bummer it was a great teaching moment. Now on Saturdays they are more inclined to make sure I am on track so that we can all be done at the same time.
“Consequences” has become a bit of a buzzword in our house. We have worked hard on learning that our actions always have consequences some good and some bad. Through this though we are learning that if we want the good consequences we need to choose the actions that lead to them. If we want to play on Saturday we need to get our chores done. If we want time to read in bed we need to get to bed on time. If we want clean teeth we need to brush them. This year especially I think my #PowerofDad moments have come from teaching my kids the importance of responsibility.
I’m joining up with Life of Dad and Oral B to promote the #PowerOfDad to highlight the little moments that power the biggest smiles. This year as part of their Father’s Day campaign, P&G Oral Care has partnered with March of Dimes and New York Giant’s quarterback, Eli Manning, to celebrate the great moments in fatherhood as well.
Oral-B has been keeping my teeth clean for as long as I can remember and Oral-B’s newest and most technologically advanced power toothbrush, the Oral-B 7000 Black takes things to a whole new level. This bad boy is equipped with a SmartGuide wireless display that gives you feedback while you brush it is like GPS for finding germs in you mouth. If keeping your dad’s smile clean and white is high on your list then this is the gift for you, you can even use this $7 off coupon, just to sweeten the pot.
Happy Father’s Day !
Disclosure: I partnered with Oral–B and Life of Dad, LLC for the #PowerofDad Father’s Day promotion and was compensated for my involvement.
